Brief Summary

With their afternoon classes canceled, Rikuo and Masaki found themselves back at the Eve café. Looking at the other customers, one couple caught Rikuo’s eye… or rather, her assets did. Masaki caught him ogling and so did Nagi. Meddling, the hostess called the couple over to talk with the two schoolboys.

Introducing themselves as Koji and Rina, their meeting started without success, neither side wanting to start the conversation. However, Rikuo was the one to break the ice by noticing Koji’s camera and proceeding to activate it. The pictures taken were put on a large flat-screen, holographic display. Despite the sudden enthusiasm, it also caused a problem when Rina noticed a picture of Koji lying in bed with another woman. Then, her leg had a brief spasm and she excused herself to the bathroom. Feeling guilty, Rikuo followed her…

Watching from a corner, Rikuo watched as Rina pulled up her dress… only to reveal broken machinery. Gasping, Rikuo revealed his presence and Rina felt the need to tell the truth. She had served as a bodyguard for her master and due to a sudden attack, she literally took a bullet. Despite the need for repairs, she wanted to stay at the café just a bit longer… to experience the peace she found here.

As for Masaki, the schoolboy began to lecture Koji about being with an android. However, despite his strong words, they fell flat when Koji confessed to being an android. He knows that society favors humans being with humans. However, back at home, his master had given up on humans and longed to be with him. Due to the first law, he can’t disobey her orders.

After Rikuo and Masaki each heard one side of the story, they decided to go get their own table. That’s when they discovered something amazing… Neither of them could tell who’s really a human or robot. With Koji and Nina, they were both wrong in thinking that one of them was a human.

Once Rikuo got back home, he was surprised by Sammy’s change in appearance. When he asked why, she returned his question with another one… asking if he liked it.

Impressions

After the long wait, I was hoping to get something deeper since the last part left us with some group observing the free will developing in androids. Though wrong, I was really amused by this episode, especially by Rikuo’s first interaction with Rina. He just kept ogling her, even subconsciously. Dramatic music started playing whenever he focused too much on her breasts/legs. The most humorous part was when Masaki delivered justice, executing the promised slap. It was so loud that other patrons looked up to see the cause of the noise.

As for Koji and Rina’s story, I wasn’t too impressed. Maybe it’s because they’re together… maybe not out of love… but because they want to please their masters. Either way, I suppose that part was more for expanding Rikuo’s character. It’s only a matter of time before he looks at androids (and Sammy) in a much more favorable light.

I suppose it’ll take several months for the next part to be released. Such long gaps in time are tortuous but once they do come out, always high quality and never a complaint.

One more Sammy to go please…

  1. The long wait really paid off. This show is just too pure pure genius. I really thought before on the preview of this episode that at least one of Koji and Rina are human and the other is an android… but they’re both androids :D . I wasn’t really expecting the writers to give them a perfect, happy ending which is different from that forbidden robot x human ones… So sweet.

Masaki is awesome ^_^. I’m really enjoying this series. There’s obviously a spice of romance in it (I really enjoy that), but I was really hoping for something more political (like going on how androids were treated and a revolution against the Ethics Committee) to happen.

I can’t wait for April. It’s a looong wait again until the next episode T.T…

    • “expecting the writers” This show is made by.. ONE PERSON or so I heard. Sorry.. I just had to say that. :p

      • It’s not made by just one person, unlike Voices of a Distant Star by Makoto Shinkai. Yasuhiro Yoshiura is the director. His company, Studio Rikka, is the one producing this.

  2. Nice screencap :)

Wow, the guy just couldn’t stop looking! :P

It was a nice episode, but I didn’t enjoy it much because it didn’t offer enough entertainment or serious plot development. The direction looks quite boring as well.
