Kimi no Iru Machi – Chapter 16

Running Away is Bad

I feel like reading Evangelion all over again… but without mecha and more Shinji.

Brief Summary

Haruto realized what he just did, berating himself for not thinking it through. However, he wasn’t the only one to suffer. Yuzuki, having overheard the confession, gave Narumi the cold shoulder when the senior tried another pass at her.

Hiding her emotions, she acted as if she didn’t know anything when Haruto came to pick her up.

The next day, they got a surprise when Akari returned to school, already in high spirits though clearly still getting over her crush with Narumi.

The happy occasion was overshadowed by the tension between Nanami and Haruto.

Yuzuki tried to make things right by inviting Nanami to their group… only to make Haruto leave.

Pulling him aside, Yuzuki implies that Haruto’s running away and it’s just changing his character into something uncool.

Realizing this, Haruto decided to get back with the group, trying to prepare for what may come from Nanami’s answer.

Impressions

Haruto is a jerk. He makes emo-Shinji look good, which is pretty bad. I mean, seriously… after a confession like that, the immediate response you’re looking for probably isn’t going to be to your liking… Then to blame her for that… just cruel. Ignorantly cruel.

I can’t understand why he would try to avoid her so much… especially after a chapter when she opened up to him, saying that she feels threatened. Nanami has insecurities about being part of the group since she’s relatively new, unlike Takashi, Haruto, and Akari who’ve been childhood friends. To leave the group just because she joined? I think that’s the complete opposite of what should be done… even if Nanami doesn’t respond well.

Overall, this chapter left a bad aftertaste. The art seemed rushed and low quality. Akari’s reappearance scared me at first, reminding me of Rena Ryuuguu’s face when she goes crazy. But worst of all… Yuzuki knows everything… meaning that if she has the slightest bit of brainpower, she could manipulate everyone’s feelings to her advantage. There’s nothing that she doesn’t know about so all the cards are in her hands.

The predecessor of Suzuka? /facepalm

  1. You’re pretty dead biased to judge the series merely because of your preference for the suzuka looking girl XD;

  2. You’re wrong about that even though I do have a preference for Rei-look-alikes.

    I’m constantly comparing this with the mangaka’s previous work which is Suzuka.
