Code Breaker – Chapter 14

The Name of the Past and Present

Moral? Reunited childhood friends aren’t really your friends.

Brief Summary

In class, Sakura and Oogami hears about a serial arsonist who’s been hitting the area randomly, killing numerous people. The police are still without leads since the device used is easily made and most of it is burned at the scene

Before they could go on, a student from another class enters and reveals himself to be Oogami’s childhood friend. Sousuke Noguchi. While reuniting with the Code Breaker, the class learns that Oogami’s parents had “divorced” and that they used to play a game that looks like Pokemon.

Sakura tried to pull more information out of Oogami but he sidestepped her questions, saying that he doesn’t have any identity other than that of a Code Breaker. If there’s evil, he’ll burn it.

Those words put Sakura into preacher mode, trying to prevent anybody from committing “evil”.

She even attacked an innocent bystander who was trying to smoke, mistaking him for the serial arsonist.

But an explosive device was indeed nearby and it was set by none other than Noguchi. He smiled when it blew up in her hands, engulfing her in flames. At the same time, Oogami receives his next job… to take down Noguchi.

Impressions

Noguchi’s development was no surprise. The instant he revealed himself to be Oogami’s friend from the past is an instant red flag. Code Breakers were made to be the top secret justice enforcers that society should not know about. Any lingering connections are suspicious.

I could see some influence since Noguchi was claimed to be as flamboyent as Oogami when burning people, the pose and the lines. Not sure who learned from who but they obviously spent time with each other. That response about how his parents divorced seem to be a lie since Toki, the other Code Breaker, mentioned that Oogami killed them. In addition, they didn’t appear in the manga at all (not yea at least).

I anticipate some Oogami-caring-for-Sakura moment next chapter. The fight with Noguchi? Highly doubt that it’ll be entertaining. Might get wordy but comparing someone who makes bombs to someone who can set you on fire on a whim… The winner should be obvious.

Pokemon MonMon r srs bizniz?

  1. Great character designs. I’m evaluating this series for possible addition to my reading list.

(And don’t worry, I skipped the text bubbles so I haven’t spoiled myself badly.)
