Double Arts – Chapter 23 + Special (Finale)

From the Beginning, You…

So this really is the final chapter… Ew.

Brief Summary

The battle was over. Before they could waste any more time savoring their victory, Farren hurried them move to the next town.

However, before they could leave, Elle realized that Kiri’s injured. Forcing him to sit and be treated, Elle wondered…

She wonders why he tries so hard to do everything on his own, taking the burden so that no one else could suffer.

He answered by saying that Elle’s the one who saved him by giving him a goal in life. Previous to their encounter, he lived life on a whim without any real plan for the future.

It was then… when Elle made an indirect confession.

And the group continued on their journey… while someone is writing about it, from the future but reminiscing of the past. It appears to be Elle… but Kiri isn’t around so there’s much to speculate about.

But in the very end, Kiri silently confessed to himself that his reason to be with Elle isn’t that pure. He fell in love at first sight… and went on from there…

Impressions

Ugh. So Double Arts was canceled due to low ratings from the (weekly) Shounen Jump magazine publisher. And though for a rush ending, it was decently executed. However, there’s no more hope for this series since a good end is already secured with the future Elle writing about their journeys. It’s like watching a mystery movie when you already read the summary and know how it’s going to end. The only redeeming factor would be omakes or similar material, one-shot shorts that don’t really have that much impact on the larger plot.

Elle went back to her old uniform?

Yet, I can’t stress how much of the series… despite my small gripe about how their battle system works… is just wasted. The Gazelle organization were going to execute their plan, creating the setup for a large-scale battle. Farren is starting to really warm up to Kiri/Elle so he’s about to take on an even greater role. Sui’s… Sui. A confession from Elle and an indirect one at the end from Kiri. And Andie Frau! WHERE ARE YOU?!

Just like another favorite of mines, Mx0… wasted.

Overall Rating: 7/10*

*It should be lower considering how it ended but I consider this a special case where the magazine carrier cancelled its run.

Special

Just a short bonus about Kiri and Sui when they dated… four times… in the span of one day.

<3 Sui… even if she’ll break my heart.

Sui is not only merciless in the battlefield of war… but also in the battlefield of love :)

  1. The omake’s just hilarious ^_^. I will not be getting over this anytime soon….

  2. Each time a great anime dies pre-maturely, I die a little inside. Double Arts was no exception, I honestly believed it was the best manga in 2008.

  3. Mx0’s end was a bit more traumatizing to me than Double Art’s. Probably because that one had a longer run so I got attached more.

  7. Even though DA has a good number of fans internationally, it’s low ratings in serialization (in Japan) makes it unlikely for a continuance/restart.
