Alive ~The Final Evolution~ – Chapter 31

Ever heard the saying that when you die, you’ll live through every memory you made?

Brief Summary

From Chapter 30, Haru had stepped between Taisuke and Asou’s fight. Although she was able to bring Taisuke back to his senses, she was obliterated by Hirose who mistakened her as Megumi. Now, only her ponytail remains…

On the other side of the lake, Hirose and the other comrades were drawn in by the Heart of Akuro, calmed by its mysterious light. But before the young boy could claim it…

Kanon beat him to it and claimed it for herself.

Nami suddenly came to the scene but completely missed the scene when Kanon absorbed the light. Attacking quickly, her ice claws sliced into her brother’s murderer… only to melt off. It had no effect on her.

Her powers had increased, allowing her to blow anything up. Unlike before, she’s not limited to metallic objects. Even Yura feared her, realizing that she had completely changed.

Nami and Kanon continued to fight… but it was obviously one-sided. Eventually, Nami was on the ground, bleeding and heavily injured.

However, it was all a feint to lure Kanon in for a sacrificial attack.

Nami could have defeated Kanon… if she didn’t see her reflection in the other girl’s eyes. Taisuke’s words echoed in her mind, stopping her for the briefest of moments. However, it was long enough for Kanon to reverse the situation.

But before the insane girl could finish Nami off, she realized that her body was decomposing… or rather, bursting apart with her blood. But it proved more than that…

It was also her memories… Kanon’s past…

With one last cry, Kanon disappeared in an explosion…

Katsumata stood on the far banks, calmly noting his comrade’s end. In fact, he persuaded her to take the Heart of Akuro, knowing that she couldn’t handle it.

In the end, the heart returned to Hirose’s hands… and he’s complete.

Impressions

Ok, Haru’s death was a bit predictable since she’s just too innocent compared to the other people. But regardless, with just a ponytail left to tell of her existance, I’m sure that Taisuke will beat up Hirose, with or without the Heart of Akuro. The last page, as the editor noted, just speaks volumes about his power and I wouldn’t be surprised if Taisuke reverted to his alternate violent persona.

As for Kanon… about time! I was wondering how long a purely selfish character would last… and her fight against Nami in the forest just spelled her doom. Though the brief powerup helped her, her attitude got the best of her… and almost costed her life when Nami launched the surprise attack. Her death though… is one of the most symbolic and creative ones that I’ve ever read. It almost made me feel bad for her… key word: almost. Now I’m just waiting for Yura’s turn to bite the dust… but he shown his humane side in previous chapters with his paintings.

Epic showdown between Taisuke and Hirose coming up? Can’t wait! :)
