Batman: Gotham Knight

I was lured into this movie since I heard that an American series would be attempted by Japanese animators.

The Evolution of Batman

Version 1

Version 2

Version 3

Verdict: It’s an okay movie/mini-series.

It wasn’t too special and the different animation styles were more of a detriment than artistic creativism. As you can see, Version 1 of Batman is the most familiar with Japanese anime. Version 2 is styled like the Animatrix. Version 3 is the American format that kept true with the comic books.

Gotham Knight is split into 7 parts with different plots for each but usually running in the same chronological order. Out of them, I enjoyed Crossfire, Field Test, and Deadshot the most. The other 4 parts are average.

Overall, I would recommend the movie to people familiar with Batman. It is unique and the plot is decent. The short stories are interesting and the animation is of good quality. Otherwise, there’s nothing outstanding and it has little-to-no rewatch value.

  1. Just watched it; I probably love Bishie Bruce the best, even if V3 stays true to original designs. Production I.G’s V2 ain’t half bad either, though they made him more like Bruce Lee than Bruce Banner.

  2. I mean Wayne. Too much The Hulk for me ><
