Spring 2008 Anime OP/ED Reviews – Part 8

Presenting… Kokuun’s one and only… Anime OP/ED Reviews

Lately I’ve been catching up on the Azamaru and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures manga. While reading those two did take up a bunch of time, I’ve wasted more on my previous post. Ranting about one particular fan-made work, it took a nice two hours to churn out. If you have time, do check it out and leave some comments. As usual, feedback is always appreciated.

To Love-Ru

OP title: Forever We Can Make It!
Artist: Thyme

To Love-Ru is one of those typical harem series that has a lot of fan service. However, in spite of how pointless its plot may be, the OP is great. The song is very catchy and though the animation is laden with suggestive themes, the zooming-in for credits is unique. It’s pretty fun trying to remember where those locations are. Thumbs up and I swear I’m not doing it because of the ecchi.

Rating: 8/10

Here’s a nice MAD for the OP mixed with Clannad Characters. Nicely done.

ED title: Lucky Tune
Artist: Anna

Like the OP, it has suggestive themes and has a fairly unique animation. However, it proves more of an annoyance than anything, those wandering circles. The song itself has a nice jingle to it but doesn’t match with the imagery. This could have been a lot better but unfortunately, it wasn’t. Boo.

Rating: 2/10

Himitsu ~The Revelation~

OP title: Kokoro Film
Artist: ALvino

This isn’t a very popular series, most likely because it’s very episodic (goes by 2 episode stories) and has some shounen-ai vibes. However, after watching it, something about this reminds me of the Ghost in the Shell series… possibly because the characters work for the 9th forensic lab (G.I.T.S = Section 9) and use special technology to delve into the mind. OP-wise, great and the animation really flowed. My only problem is the flowery scene that appeared at the end. It doesn’t fit. Otherwise, extremely good.

Rating: 9/10

ED title: Kemuri
Artist: Makichang

Let’s make this clear. I don’t have any problems about homosexuality in real life. However, I would not pursue it in anime or manga. It’s just not my cup of tea. That being said, the animation for the ED is very simple yet elegant. It focuses on one of the more important male leads and gives more shounen-ai vibes. Though there hasn’t been any concrete moments in the anime, I get the feeling that there will be some. However, the music is extremely good, smoothing even my dislike for BL. Average overall but the music really brings the ratings up. If you enjoy shounen-ai, the ratings would be higher of course.

Rating: 6/10
